Matilda Firth
Disney and Universal Pictures
Matilda Firth (10) has starred in major movies for Disney and Universal Pictures, shooting as far away as Europe and even New Zealand. She has filmed for some of the most cutting- edge British TV series’ such as Mr Bates v The Post Office and Time, the latter opposite Jodie Whittaker. Most recently she has been filming as a supporting lead role in a star-studded Christmas movie.
Matilda’s passion for screen acting stood out from the start, when she started our classes at just 3 years old. Our teachers nurtured her talent through weekly classes, and as she built her knowledge, she landed supporting artist roles in productions like The English Game and The Irregulars. These opportunities allowed her to apply what she learned in class on major TV sets, which further fuelled her passion. As her confidence grew, she moved on to Hero roles in commercials, where her potential was clear.
Matilda’s breakthrough came with the Christmas McDonald’s advert ‘Imaginary Iggy’. This project allowed her to showcase her ability to develop a character without even needing lines, demonstrating her maturity and skill. One of the most significant areas of growth for Matilda at Articulate was her emotional range. Our screen acting teachers helped her develop emotional recall techniques, teaching her to channel her personal memories into performances, making them feel more authentic and nuanced. This skill helped her take on emotionally complex roles and explore different acting styles, including comedy.
Matilda’s comedy skills were showcased when she landed the role of Grace on Channel 4’s Hullraisers, where she worked alongside talented northern actors. Despite her young age, she held her own opposite a well-known cast with far more experience. Articulate’s emphasis on improvisation prepared her well for this, as our curriculum incorporates improvisational exercises to help students react and think on the spot – something any comedic actor should be well versed in.
As Matilda’s career progressed, she began to land major roles in high-profile TV shows like Mr Bates v The Post Office (ITV), Time (BBC), A Christmas Carole (BBC), 9 Perfect Strangers (Hulu), and Coma (Channel 5).
Matilda then moved into lead and supporting leads in movies, whilst still continuing her drama classes at Articulate. Her first few big movies were Wolf Man (Universal Pictures) and Subservience (Netflix) opposite Megan Fox.
Matilda is mastering the craft of character development and script interpretation at a very young age. The industry-focused training at Articulate plays a crucial role in preparing her for these larger, high-budget productions. Whether collaborating with acclaimed director Leigh Whannell on Wolf Man or working alongside the ensemble cast of 9 Perfect Strangers, Matilda’s versatility shines through.
