Articulate Talent shines in new Channel 5 Show ‘The Feud’ alongside Jill Halfpenny & Jamie Lee O’Donnell
Gripping new thriller The Feud is out now, starring Articulate’s own Joel Kai Ali alongside esteemed actors such as Jill Halfpenny, Rupert Penry-Jones, Jamie Lee O’Donnell, and Larry Lamb.
The new series follows neighbours living on a suburban street falling out over a family’s plan to build an extension to their house.
Joel takes on the role of Abul Masood with Emma (Jill Halfpenny) defending him in court against the police officer (Jamie Lee O’Donnell) who arrested him. “I actually knew someone who reminded me of Abul. We weren’t close, but I rang him up and talked to him for a bit to get some of the characteristics and vibes off him and put it on paper. When I was creating the character, I wanted to put in that he wasn’t just a bad guy. In previous roles I’ve played have primarily been bad guy, so I wanted to show that maybe he’s got something going on in his personal life that is affecting him and his struggles, which is why he has ended up in this predicament.”
Joel was cast by Beverley Keogh Casting, who hosted a workshop for Articulate. We asked him how he found the workshop and working with the casting agent, Sheraz: “When I went to the workshop, Sheraz was brilliant. I went not knowing him, but when I left, we had made a connection. It was really cool to work with him, and he, of course, graciously cast me in this show.”
This was Joel’s first cast role. We asked him how he felt when he found out he got the role. He said: “I only started acting two years ago, so I was really excited when I got cast. I worked really hard to audition and still am. The character Abul was really cool to play. He is quite a different character, and there are a lot of sides to him. In the first episode, he’s in trouble a lot, so it was cool for me to explore him a lot.”
