What We Teach

Our classes teach children and teenagers the skills they need to thrive in life. The drama classes are designed to equip your child with confidence, the ability to stand up and speak in front of an audience, to put forward their points clearly and intelligently, to comprehensive screen acting skills, covering everything from the basics to advanced techniques.

Juniors and Inters

Our classes for those in Reception to Year 5 focus on learning valuable core life skills including having confidence and self belief, the ability to speak in front of others and raise points clearly and articulately, to use their imaginations and creativity, to work with others and form friendships, to celebrate the success’ of one another and to learn empathy and emotional intelligence through thoughts, feelings, poems, scripts and stories. We do all of this in a fun, exciting way and our children leave our classes filled with self-belief with huge smiles on their faces.

Seniors and Advanced

Our classes for those students in year 6 and above, is where we get a little more serious while still focusing on our core values taught in the younger classes. You can expect to be working with scripts from television and film covering serious emotional scenes as well as adventure, action and comedy. Our tutors use audition scripts from shows like Waterloo Road, Adolescence and major movies. The Articulate teachers work with students on acting style and delivery of lines, use of pause, reaction, creating light and shade in the performance, making the performance varied and interesting, naturalism, use of accents and nuanced delivery. How to create and film a perfect self-tape audition is covered regularly, as well as improvisation. The classes are described as having a real ‘buzz’ in them- where everyone is welcomed, accepted and everyone is there for the same reasons. Students leave the class with a real excitement and passion and friendships are often continued outside of the classes.

Adults

Our classes for those aged 18+ are where we take a more sophisticated approach while still upholding the core values of passion and creativity. Our more experienced students have the opportunity to hone their craft.

The joy of our Performing Arts classes is that we cover a little bit of everything – dance, drama and singing! A fun, physical, class set to music from your favourite musicals. In this class, your child will spend their time improving their flexibility, technique, improvisation, audition technique, core strength, and coordination. Group singing and harmonies will also be on the agenda, this is where teamwork in this class really comes into play.Your child will build friendships and grow in confidence all within one class!

My daughter attends performing arts and drama classes at Articulate. All the teachers are incredibly professional and so enthusiastic. The classes are fun and I can see a real increase in confidence in my daughter. She also had a blast at the week long summer club, and the production of Matilda was extraordinary!

We haven’t been at articulate very long and we moved from another performing arts school. The difference is my girl has been amazing. She seems more relaxed, confident and doesn’t feel like she is constantly fighting for a space. Long may this continue as it is my little girls dream to be on tv one day ❤️

Our 16 year old daughter has been coming to both the Performing Arts and the Young Performers Drama classes for a few years now. We travel across to Ilkley and they are her favourite activity each week. She has learned so much from them, enough to be represented by Articulate's agency and has also had the opportunity to take part in some excellent additional workshops and the Summer Schools. The classes have been so friendly and welcoming, whilst hugely beneficial to her acting and performing. I have recommended Articulate many times on a one to one basis, but would suggest anyone let their child give this a go!

My daughter has been attending Articulate Drama School this term and has absolutely loved it. The classes have given her a wonderful opportunity to channel her enthusiasm and energy into something creative and focused. She started with the performing arts sessions, and it’s been amazing to see how much she has grown in confidence and skill in such a short time. She enjoyed both the performing arts and acting classes during the trial period, but she wanted to see how she got on before committing. She did so well and had such a great experience that I’m now delighted to be adding acting classes next term as well! I’m really impressed with the supportive environment and the quality of teaching. Articulate has been a fantastic experience for her, and we’re excited to continue her journey there. Highly recommended!
